A full port threaded ball valve means this valve has an over-sized ball so that the hole in the ball is the same size as the pipeline resulting in lower friction loss. Flow is unrestricted but the valve is larger and more expensive so this is only used where free flow is required, for example in pipelines which require pigging, and has a thread for connection.

A thread is abbreviated by thread screw, which is a helical structure used to convert between rotational and linear movement. A thread is a ridge wrapped around a cylinder or cone in the form of a helix, with the former being called a straight thread and the latter one called a tapered thread.

A thread’s lead is the linear distance the screw travels in one revolution results in the advantage of the thread.
