A full bore brass ball valve is also called full port flanged ball valve. It has an over-sized ball so that the hole in the ball is the same size as the pipeline leading to lower friction loss, and it has a flange to connect different parts. A full bore brass ball valve is used where free flow is required, because flow is unrestricted while the valve is larger and more expensive.

A full bore brass ball valve’s connection part is a flange. A flange is an external or internal rib, or rim (lip), for strength, as the flange of an iron beam or I-beam (or a T-beam); or for a guide, as the flange of a train wheel; or for attachment to another object, as the flange on the end of a pipe, steam cylinder, etc, or on the lens mount of a camera. Pipes can be assembled or disassembled easily, by using flanges. Flange ball valve form a range of extremely robust and reliable valves for use with corrosive chemical such as strong acid and alkalies, and surpass stainless steel ball valves and lined steel or lined cast iron valves in most applications involving sulphuric acid at ambient temperature. In most cases, flange designs are available as "welding neck", "slip-on", "boss", "lap joint", "socket weld", "threaded", and also "blind".There are many different flange standards worldwide, such as ASA/ANSI (USA), PN/DIN (European), BS10 (British/Australian), and JIS/KS (Japanese/Korean).
